How long have you been dancing? I took tap lessons for 5 or 6 years when I was younger and I've been dancing at church for as long as I can remember. But this is my first year in anything like In Step. (obviously)
How did you get interested in dancing and why do you enjoy dance so much? I first was interested in dancing when I saw my other friends in second grade tap dancing in the talent show. I wanted to be a part of that too. I enjoy dancing because it's one way you can use your entire body to express an emotion. I like taking on different characters and being dramatic.
What, in your personal experience, is the most important thing about the art of dance? God created dance and He wants us to dance to glorify Him- it's one of the neatest ways you can worship Him!
How does dance impact other people's lives? This summer, I was one of those "other people." When I saw the dance "I AM," it moved me to tears! I believe God can speak to people through dance, music, and so many other cool things!
How has being involved with In Step affected your life? In Step is a huge blessing to me from God. This summer, I was angry with Hime for telling me to give up playing in the marching band. I felt like He was taking away everything I ever liked to do. But, then the opportunity of being in In Step came up and I felt like it was God saying, "See, I do still love you and you're going to have so much fun with this." God cares about even the simplest things!
What is your favorite thing about being a part of a ministry group with youth of various ages? At first, I was kind of scared to be in a dance group with so many younger people, but when I realized our purpose, I saw that age didn't matter. And, each person in the group has such an awesome character that it wouldn't be the same without them!
Is being in a dance group a lot of hard work? If yes, how so? It's not that hard- yah, you have to remember what to do next and learn some funky (but very exciting) moves- but it's mostly just a lot of fun!
What does it take to be in a dance group? It takes some concentration, but mostly a good attitude and willing heart. When your heart's in the right place and you're willing to see what God is going to do each day, then God can use you and bring you so much joy in even the silliest things!
