How long have you been dancing? I have been dancing ever since the first Psalty's sing-along musical that was done in Choir School.
How did you get interested in dancing and why do you enjoy dance so much? I have been interested in dance ever since my first year in Choir School. I really enjoyed seeing the musicals and how they danced and I wanted to be just like them. I enjoy dancing because I feel that it is a great way to minister to people while having fun. It's a unique way to tell people about Jesus. Dance has also proven to be an effective way to witness to people because so many people have told us how In Step has touched their life.
What, in your personal experience, is the most important thing about the art of dance? I think the most important thing about dance is that it is a God-given talent. I believe that it was given to each one of the members of In Step to praise the Lord. Dancing is a gift because not everyone can dance and praise God in that way. We know that this gift comes from God because in the Bible it says that, "Every good and perfect gift comes from above." - James 1:17a
How does dance impact other people's lives? Dance impacts other people's lives because they see us as the youth of the church praising God in a way that we can glorify Him while having fun. So many people have come up to me after the service and they have told me how touched they were by our message through dance! That tells me that God is really helping us make an impact on other's lives.
How has being involved with In Step affected your life? In Step has impacted my life very much. I love coming to dance rehearsal . . . It's the highlight of my Tuesdays! I feel like I can just take a break from my busy week and spend time praising God with my friends in a way that pleases Him. By being in In Step, I have seen how God can use us as young people to serve Him. Just like 1 Timothy 4:12 says, "Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith, and in purity."
What is your favorite thing about being a part of a ministry group with youth of various ages? I love the way that even though we are all at different ages, we all can come together for the same purpose, to praise God! We have grown closer together as friends and age doesn't matter.
Is being in a dance group a lot of hard work? If yes, how so? That's an interesting question. Haha. Sometimes it can be hard work (especially if it is a hard dance), but it also can be hard work spiritually because you're trying to reach out to others and the devil is constantly attacking. But I think that since dance is fun we can forget about how tiring it is and concentrate on the work that we have to do.
What does it take to be in a dance group? One of my favorite quotes is, "If God calls you to it, He can pull you through it." I believe that God has called me to serve and worship Him in this way. You don't need special talents to be a servant of the Lord. God doesn't care about your ability. He cares about your availability.
